Fresh powder snow, warm weather were winning conditions for the 43rd edition of the Morin-Heights Viking Loppet!
Sunday, February 22nd, the Municipality of Morin-Heights and the Viking Ski Club jointly organized and hosted the Morin-Heights Viking Loppet and welcomed more than 430 participants.

A loyal team of 140 volunteers was greeting participants, handing out refreshments, manning road crossings, and encouraging skiers along the way to the finish line. This great event attracts athletes as well as families of outdoor enthusiasts. As with every edition, the atmosphere was festive and warm, which makes the Viking Loppet Morin-Heights a unique event! The Desjardins trophy was awarded to the two fastest athletes under 15 to complete the 10 km race, Parker Courte-Rathwell (13) from Arundel completed the race in 27m30s and Rose D’Auteuil-Legault (13) from Montreal finished in 31 minutes.
The name of James Coulton Jr (27) from Westmount will be engraved on the Munk trophy, awarded to the overall fastest man in the 33 km (2h00m05s). His fastest female counterpart was Myriam Paquette (24) from Quebec, whose name will go on the Berg & Dohrendorf trophy (2h17m02s) for a second year. For the 20 km race, the fastest man to complete the race was Val-David’s Tobin Novosad Izquierdo (16) (1h23m23s) whose name will be added on the new Jack Steele trophy. The George Basler trophy for the fastest woman in that same race will have the name of Lachine’s Anne Labbé (50) (1h33m44s) engraved on it. Innsbruck Olympic champion in bobsleigh, Vic Emery (81) was the oldest participant to race along the 33 km course last Sunday. A new category will be added next year as five participants aged 11 or less raced the 20 km and deserved medals: Morin-Heights’ Calvin Walsh (10) Lucas and Paul Moeck (11) from Ville St-Laurent, Jena Price (11) from Montreal as well as Anna Molins (11) from Baie d’Urfé.

The organizing committee wishes to thank ALL the sponsors who make a big difference in the scale and impact of this wonderful event. Many, many thanks also to the team of volunteers who get things done and without whom there would be no Loppet! Thanks to the dynamic participants who are back year after year! Thank you all!
